a Path to Peace – March 29

March 29                                                                               Palm Sunday

Personal Prayer:

Lord, my sorrow for the pain in the world is nearly unbearable.

This week’s Prayer for Peace:

O Holy One, from his humble yet hopeful entrance into Jerusalem, to the clearing of the temple’s profiteers the next morning, to his arrest, torture and execution during the ensuing days, we have much to learn from Jesus’ example. Stay near this week as we ponder what it means to us personally, and what our outward response to Jesus’ voluntary humiliation and painful death should be.  Amen.

Lectionary Readings:

Mark 11:1-11 – Many spread their cloaks on the road while others spread branches.

Isaiah 50:4-9 – I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.

Psalm 31:9-16 – I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends.

Philippians 2:5-11 – (Jesus) made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.

Moment for Peace:

War Resisters League was formed on this day in 1923 by Jessie Wallace Hughan, a leading suffragist and pacifist of her time.  For over 90 years they have been a strong voice for peace, offering education, counter recruitment, and nonviolent direct action. As Albert Einstein said, “You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war.”
