a Path to Peace – January 14

January 14, 2018                                                                                               Second Sunday after Epiphany

Personal Prayer:

Here I am Lord.

This week’s Prayer for Peace:

Holy One, your path is the right one. The one of peace and justice and equality and love. It should be easy to follow you but it isn’t always. The blessing of free will is a curse at times. When everything is allowed and yet little gets done. When we cause each other unnecessary pain by our selfishness and fear. Help our minds relax into you so that we can clearly hear your voice. So that our jobs, our relationships, our activities, and our example to others more faithfully follow the path of love. Amen.

Lectionary Readings:

John 1:43-51 – Jesus met Philip and said, “Follow me.”

1 Samuel 3:1-10 – Then Eli realized that God was calling the boy.

Psalm 139:1-18 – Where can I flee from your presence?

1 Corinthians 6:12-20 – “Everything is allowed”- but I will not be dominated by anything.

Moment for Peace:

Are we listening? Would we even know if we were called? Do we have a sense of when it’s time to leave? When something isn’t working and it’s time to move on? Samuel was called four times before he realized it was God. Jesus just had to ask Philip to follow him once and he dropped everything. Life is full of forks in the road, of opportunities to change course, to serve God and serve each other better, more honestly and effectively. Where is God calling you to focus this year?
