Sharing Happiness – Part 72

My favorite podcast, “Pop Culture Happy Hour” ends their show with each member saying what made them happy the previous week. The rule is that it must be something anyone could enjoy if they chose (i.e., books, movies, twitter feeds, albums).

JB:  I recently went to Detroit with my parents to visit my nephew.  While there we visited the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and the Detroit Zoo.  If you’re in the area, both are worth checking out.

MB:  I have two quick ones.  The first is This Wandering Day (Poppy’s Song) from The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power.  The second is Chez Elle, which is so good.  It is easy to eat there with various food allergies as they have lots of options and clear menu labels.

EB:  We watched Descendant, a fascinating documentary about finding The Clotilda, the last illegal transatlantic slave ship to land in America, and the people who are descendants from its enslaved passengers.  It focuses on the power of local history as the Clotilda’s descendants have kept the story alive despite others attempt to forget this chapter of Mobile, Alabama’s history.

CB:  For my Survey of Art class, we have to view Art21.org videos and write short reflections.  The videos include diverse artists articulating what drives them to make art, the statement they are making, and the media they use.  My favorites have included Kara Walker, Nick Cave, and James Turrell.  There are nine seasons available, so plenty of artists to choose from.

Bonus Recommendation.  Ex Machina is so good.  It raises so many profound and thoughtful questions.  We’re still analyzing and discussing days later.
