  • Sally Bean

    Sally Bean

Hello Peace Friends. My name is Sally Bean. My husband, Todd, and I moved to Kansas City in 2019 to be here with our kids and their beautiful families. I am a dedicated environmentalist and advocate for children everywhere.

I enjoy reading about diverse subjects and talking about ideas. Most importantly, I am trying to make the most of my one, wild, precious life.

I am delighted to be part of Peace Church.

  • Doug Smith

Doug grew up in Indianapolis, the son of Disciples of Christ missionaries and ministers but after college and two years of “alternative service” as a conscientious objector in Congo ceased his participation in Church. When he settled in Tucson in 1980 he became involved with First Christian Church’s support for newly arrived refugees, most from El Salvador. Three years later he began seminary studies and was ordained as a minister at age 40.

Now retired near wife Kate’s hometown of Atchison, Doug especially appreciates how Peace has helped them connect with social justice organizing in the area. He enjoys showing daughters Deborah from L.A. and Janet from upstate New York around town when they visit.

  • Anita Foertsch

Anita grew up in Kansas City North. She received her teaching degree at the University of Central Missouri. Her masters degree in Elementary School Administration came from the University of Kansas. She and her husband Joe have traveled a lot during their 53 years of marriage.

Anita enjoys volunteering at her granddaughters’ school which is within walking distance. She also does a Senior Circuit class at the Y in Philly. Exploring the botanical gardens, art museums, historical sites, unique neighborhoods, and nearby small towns keeps her active.

Anita and Joe are charter members at Peace. Joe has been on the board previously and Anita has worked on the mission committee. They found Peace to be immediately welcoming. Further, the opportunities to volunteer and donate to those in need in our metropolitan area gave them the church they were looking for to sustain a spiritual life.
