Our History

Chartered in June 2012, Peace Church is a young congregation with all of the energy, curiosity and wide-eyed optimism that youth brings with it. It can also be said that we have an old soul, balancing our youthful outlook with the wisdom and compassion that come with years of experience exploring God’s word and call in our lives. Our congregation is a visionary one, led by the simple notion, modeled for us by Christ, that all of the world’s people yearn for peace, acceptance and wholeness.

Peace is on the move…for real. Call it youthful exuberance, but we want to be a part of our local community as much as we want the community to grow with us. In our relatively short time together as a congregation , we have established a warm, sacred home in downtown Kansas City for morning worship. We’ve also explored the city together, creating our own brand of worship in spaces as diverse as a Buddhist center, the “front yard” of a community center, a downtown coffee house, until finally, coming to rest at our home in the Center for Architecture at 18th and McGee, an historic building that offers a view of our vibrant city for our worship backdrop. We’ve introduced a Zoom broadcast of our worship service that brings together our Peace family from across the region and country, extending our reach in supporting and encouraging each other no matter where our members are.

Peace is a vibrant, informed, engaged worshipping community. The peace and love of Christ help us to take what we know about our community and the world to act as God’s hands on the earth and to be the face of God to everyone we meet.
