Sharing Happiness – Part 69

My favorite podcast, “Pop Culture Happy Hour” ends their show with each member saying what made them happy the previous week. The rule is that it must be something anyone could enjoy if they chose (i.e., books, movies, twitter feeds, albums).

JB: We’re watching The Sandman on Netflix, based on the highly regarded graphic novel series by Neil Gaiman It is rated TV-MA, so it’s not for kids. But if you’re looking for a smart, well written series that grapples with big ideas and mixes mythology and history, you should give it a try.

MB: I listened to The Blinds by Adam Sternbergh. It’s an interesting concept where everyone in the witness protection program is relocated to the same Texas town. The catch is they’ve all had selective parts of their memory eased, so no one knows if they’re “an innocent” or a former criminal. One of my favorite parts is everyone’s new name must be a combination of a movie star and a vice president (e.g., Bette Burr, Hubert Gable, Marilyn Roosevelt, etc.).

EB: A neighbor recommend The Brewkery in North Kansas City. They offer regular and alcoholic kombucha on tap and to go. You can mix and match flavors. Strawberry is my favorite, but they have Cherry Limeade, Hop’d, and Stone Fruit. Their hours are limited, so make sure they’re open before you make the trek.

CB: Our band’s song 99 Red Balloons reminded my dad of a parody he’d heard called 99 Dead Baboons. This took us down a Tim Cavanagh rabbit hole.

Bonus Recommendation: I make Mexican Quinoa in our Instant Pot when it’s hot outside and I don’t want to use our oven. I thought Peace people might like because it’s vegan (we add crumbled queso fresco, which is optional).
